Pharatah Vera Senapan

Head of Business Operations (HQ)

Vera hold extensive experiences in educational travel & luxury tourism across the region. As the former consultants,
 general manager, 
 product specialist and head of a regional corporate foundation, she has led business units across Southeast Asia to create impactful projects that promote responsible tourism throughout the value chains. 

Vera holds a master degree in International Development Studies from Chulalongkorn University, and a MBA from INSEAD Business school in Singapore & France.  She also has previous experiences working in research organizations and think tank firms that promote sustainable corporate practices.

Her goal is to build authentically unique traveling experiences
 that operate in a truly responsible manner, and create programs that foster both academic and real-life practical skills
in every of Sense of Place’s journeys.

Apichaya O-in

Head of Community Engagement and Learning (HQ)

Apichaya is an educator and a facilitator with extensive research experiences on community development and impact assessment in fragile areas. 

During her time as the lecturer at the Institute for Peace Studies at Prince of Songkhla University, she used system thinking and facilitation skills for her classes on development, peace, human rights and conflicts for the civil society organizations and local communities.

A Chevening Scholar and an alumnus of London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), her main academic focus is on finding and applying innovative learning frameworks that help organizations and communities solve their problems. Her personal aim is to create an enjoyable and inclusive learning environment for everyone.

Apichaya oversees projects’ impact assessment and community learning tools for Sense of Place, ensuring that we always have cutting-edge tools in helping travelers understand the local complexity of places that they travel to.

Prof. Lawrence Surendra is an Environmental and Development Economist, a Science and Technology Policy Specialist, and an Educator for Sustainable Development.

He is currently the Chairman of The Sustainability Platform (TSP), and the committee of the National Design and Research Foundation of the Institution of Engineers, India.

Prof. Surendra graduated as a Chemical Engineer from Madras University and studied Economic History at the University of Lund, Sweden and later worked in the area of Science and Technology Policy at the Research Policy Institute University of Lund. He holds a Doctorate degree with focus on Environment and Development Economics from Ecole des hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Sorbonne University, Paris.

He has worked closely with and been Senior Adviser to the Stockholm Environment Institute, Sweden. He has worked with UN-ESCAP, the United Nations University and UNESCO, Bangkok and UNESCO offices in Hanoi, Beijing and Seoul, South Korea. He was Deputy Director of UNESCO-APCEIU (Asia Pacific Centre for Education for International Understanding), Seoul, S.Korea.
